Dialysis patients don’t have to travel far to find a NxStage machine

Company hires new VP of Home Market

LAWRENCE, Mass.—A majority of U.S. dialysis patients are within 60 miles of accessing a NxStage home hemodialysis machines, the company reported today.

After matching data from its patient database with Medicare public data, NxStage Medical Inc. said approximately 92 percent of end-stage renal disease patients are located within a 60-mile radius of a dialysis center offering the medical device company's System One therapy.

"We are extremely pleased to have increased ESRD patient and physician access to System One via our comprehensive and growing network of dialysis centers," Jeff Burbank, NxStage CEO, said in a statement. "We are committed to further develop and invigorate these programs to deepen our penetration and extend the quality of life benefits of home dialysis to more patients."

NxStage also appointed Jeff Smith to the newly created position of vice president and general manager, Home Market. Smith was recently vice president of Marketing and Business Development with Insulet Corporation, where as he helped commercialize a wearable insulin pump for diabetes patients.

"Jeff is a strong addition to our team and rounds out NxStage's leadership capabilities across our three growing markets: home, critical care and in-center," said Burbank.
